My space geek heart had me staying up late trying to move just one step closer to Mars, while my brain told me I really should go to sleep so I could do my work properly in the morning. (Anyone else remember the MS-DOS " Buzz Aldrin's Race Into Space" from 1993? Anyone?!) But seriously, this is an addictive game. The game includes elements of the SimCity series in terms of building and managing a facility, while also echoing some of the old-school games from the 1990s concerning space mission management. But as you complete related missions, such as long-duration space station work, or Martian flybys and landings, you'll find yourself moving even closer to landing on Mars. You begin with a "pathetic," or 0%, chance of achieving a landing on Mars. The game requires many hours to complete, but I got far enough to start flying the space shuttle and begin attempting a human Mars landing in earnest. Pick your research to build the best space agency you can in Mars Horizon. You do gain credit from these experiences, but failures sting nonetheless, especially if they involve fictional astronauts. You'll have to risk spending lots of the in-game currency on rocket development, only to sometimes see the mission fail due to your own incompetence or to matters outside your control. You'll be debating whether to launch in poorer "windows," when conditions aren't optimal, to beat other space agencies to milestones. My three astronauts died in Earth orbit, and my expensive Saturn V booster and Apollo spacecraft had to be rebuilt, more carefully the next time.Īnd this is where "Mars Horizon" really shines in offering a glimpse of space agency management. The race to a human moon landing was tight between me (NASA) and China, but unfortunately, I failed at the last minute by rushing my spacecraft development. (Image credit: Auroch Digital/Irregular Corporation)įor hours, I built up my space agency's skills, the number of boosters it could use and associated buildings, such as mission control, a neutral buoyancy laboratory for astronauts to do spacewalk training and numerous rocket pads. Work together with your teammates to ensure victory.Baikonur Cosmodrome recreated through Mars Horizon. Mine asteroids and fight other players in your own fully upgradable spaceship. Finally, we have StarBlast, a fun multiplayer arcade shooter set in space. Watch carefully as your power generation is affected by your orbit and solar power from the sun. Furthermore you can complete different tasks and upgrades. You must generate power using your mouse click and improve the rate at which you can collect power automatically. Thirdly we have Spaceplan which is an interesting idle game that puts you un charge of a space ship control panel. Expand your production, build new technologies, and beware of thieves! Your goal is to extract the resources necessary to fuel your ship and leave. What makes this running game even more exciting is the fact that you can run on each side of the course! Next we have Space City - Build Your Empire, a short building game set on an alien planet. Jump over gaps in the course and avoid the crumbling stone squares. You control a cute little alien and must guide him through an obstacle course. First we have Run 3 - this space based running game truly tests your skill and reflexes. These four space games have been hand-picked to represent four of our most popular titles of this genre. Films such as E.T, Alien and Star Trek have entertained us for many years and brought us ideas of little green men from outer space! Space games let us explore other worlds, battle against aliens and fight immense star battles. Space is a vast open expanse and many of us like to believe that there are alien species out there who we can make contact with. We have set foot on the moon, landed a robot on Mars and sent satellites to the far reaches of the universe. For many years man has been fascinated with space.
